The silence of the night was broken by the ringing of an alarm. A figure hurriedly dashed through an abandoned alleyway, the moonlight being his guide as he tried to make it to his car in a race of nerves and loot. A blur of motion and color and he has fallen, his face saying hello to the ground as he grumbled, struggling to get up again with the heavy load. Shadows could be seen from the roof above, the rainbow of scarves on their neck being the only noticeable feature, swaying in the wind.
He tried to break for a run again, tried to break through the swirling whirlwind of thoughts wondering what the fuck he was doing and noting how futile and bleak the situation seemed. Even though they said nothing, it was obvious who the figures were. Their appearance meant justice, for the crook was only a fly waiting to be devoured and rid of as a pest to society. And true to word, he was soon returned to the ground, the only difference being that this time, he wouldn’t be getting up anytime soon. The group vanished in the same way that they came, their scarves waving wildly.
Windows slid open, as the group clambered into their clubroom. The room was empty save for them and their companions, Bob and Steve. The tallest of the club sighed before taking off his blood red scarf. He turned to their manager, a smaller male with a pink scarf.
“Why the fuck do we have to wear these again?” Iggy looked up.
“Well, doesn’t it make us look cooler? Like we’re actual superheroes!” he replied cheerfully. Apol laughed.
“We’re superheroes anyways, aren’t we?” he asked as he removed his glasses, wiped them, and replaced them.
“Of course! Defenders of justice and stuff like that!”
The group didn’t stick around for long. They needed their rest before tending to customers the next morning.
They had been going on like this for as long as the group had been formed. Every time they told the customers that Iggy was “having an hour long nap”, the guy in question had actually been extinguishing crime. Iggy was the busiest due to being the manager of the group, therefore having the most crime-fighting responsibilities. When confronted with the reason they made the group, they’d say it would be to satisfy people’s happiness. They weren’t wrong. By fighting crime, they truly were preserving the happiness.
However, peace can never be kept long enough. Soon, it would be disrupted, and it was up to them to try piecing it together once more. The inability to restore it this time, however, would have a permanent effect on humanity.
